In Loving Memory of Annmarie “Adelaide” Williams

With humble hearts and thanksgiving to Almighty God, we celebrate the life and homegoing of Annmarie “Adelaide” Williams (née: Green), who was called from earthly labor to eternal rest on January 6th, 2026. Born on December 11th, 1938, in La Romain, to Benjamin and Valentine Green, Annmarie was raised in a large, loving family alongside nine siblings. She attended Cipero Roman Catholic Elementary School in Rambert. She is the cherished sister of Rosemarie (Winfred), while her other siblings—Cyril, Fitzroy (Pearle), Kenneth (Thelma), Carlton (Joycelyn), Glenroy (Sylvia), Dorothy (Mervyn), Arnim (Merle – left to mourn), and Stephanie preceded her in death.

Annmarie was the beloved wife of the late George Williams (2008). She was a cherished daughter-in-law to Festus and Arjee Joseph and the late Markris and Annowyn Williams. Annmarie was also a sister-in-law to the late Elizabeth, Stent, Kenwin, Williamson, Boyee, and Ferris, who were all part of her extended family network.

Annmarie was the beloved mother of Althea (Larry), Garvin, Debrah (Kenrick), Alvin, Anson (Julianne), Reynold (the late Iva), Cheryl, and Natasha. She was a proud and loving grandmother of Crystal (Christopher), Clayton “CJ” (Amanda), Onneka (Saudu), Nkese (Merrick), Rossi, Tyrone (Joseph), Jason (Alexia), Ylonnda (Bruce), Natalie (Marcus), Ashaki, Akeem, Teejay, Marcus, Nicole, Traceyann, Curt, Makinde (Desiree-ann), Gyasi, Kasi, Oronde (Aquillah), Arianna, the late Glenisha, Latoya (Reynado), Makesi, Makedon, Karlon, Daniel, Samuel, Stephanie, and Joshua. She was a great-grandmother of 38 and a great-great-grandmother of three. Each one of these brought her immense happiness and filled her life with purpose and love.

Annmarie was a loving aunt to George, Kenneth, Sterling, Lynette, Evelyn, Christopher, Donnie, Karen, Patricia, Charmian, Sinceria, Marcus, Cyrus, Nelton “Wayne”, Kirian, Nigel, Bernadette, and Curtis, as well as the late Winston, Roy, Edward, Kelvin “Michael”, Karlene, Sheila, Curt, and Nadia. She was also a dear great-aunt to Tricia Maharaj and many others, and a treasured friend of Carol Bruce, Merlyne Chan, Eric & Audrey Schoomaker, as well as many more whose lives were blessed by her kindness, counsel, and unwavering Christian faith.

Annmarie possessed a deep zeal for life and a spirit of adventure, approaching each season of her life with purpose and energy. In her earlier years, she was a diligent and devoted worker, undertaking roles in domestic service, culinary support, custodial care, and child-care services, as well as employment in a manufacturing facility. Her life, however, extended well beyond work. Annmarie took great joy in cultural expression and leisure, participating in Mas, keeping abreast of contemporary styles and trends, and later in life, finding particular enjoyment in watching Nollywood films, which she followed with enthusiasm.

Her dedication to her family was unwavering. After helping to raise several of her eldest grandchildren in Trinidad, in 1990, Annmarie relocated overseas to reunite with her eldest daughter and grandsons. She spent six years residing in Germany, a period that afforded her the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe, including visits to Czechoslovakia, France, Italy, Poland, and Spain. In 1996, Annmarie moved to the United States, where she thoughtfully divided her time between both daughters. Over the years, she resided in Georgia, New Jersey, Texas, and Maryland, and also traveled to Alaska and Hawaii. In addition, Annmarie treasured extended stays with her eldest sister in Louisiana and remained deeply connected to her homeland, making frequent, often annual, visits to her beloved Trinidad and Tobago.

Annmarie was widely known for her love of cooking and her remarkable ability to prepare generous meals for nearly any occasion. Her culinary repertoire included traditional dishes such as pelau, stewed chicken, macaroni pie, and callaloo. She also took great pleasure in preparing an array of snacks and confections, including polourie, mango anchar, red mango, sugar cake, kurma, and black cake. Although she did not personally consume alcohol, Annmarie was highly skilled in the preparation of homemade wine. Resourceful by nature, she was fond of saying, “Doe tro dat away; I coud make wine wit dat,” whenever she came across aging fruits or vegetables. She routinely produced wine in large quantities, occasionally selling or gifting bottles to others, while always setting aside a small personal reserve, typically a bottle or two accompanied by a modest glass, often an empty jelly jar, kept in her bedroom.

Annmarie was an avid collector, delighting in the gathering of flowers, both fresh and artificial, as well as music boxes, dolls, and costume jewelry. She possessed a rare gift for connection and rarely remained a stranger to anyone, forming friendships wherever she went. In her later years, after returning to live in Trinidad in 2014, her daughters would occasionally learn that she had welcomed others into her modest apartment simply because they needed support. This was the essence of Annmarie’s character. Throughout her life, she embodied a spirit of generosity and compassion, consistently placing the needs of her family and friends above her own.

Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched. Annmarie will be dearly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
