Dr. Bertrand Low Chew Tung

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dr. Bertrand (Bertie) Low Chew Tung at his home on September 17th, after a short but brave battle with cancer.  He was a devoted husband to Therese (Terry), the loving father of Suilan (Chris), Margaret (Harvey), Christian (Mierra), Elizabeth (Jonathan) and Siobhan (Gerard), cherished grandfather to sixteen(16) and great-grandfather of two (2).

A dedicated physician for over 50 years, Bertie served his patients and community with compassion, humility and commitment.  He is mourned not only by his family, but by those whose lives he touched throughout his long and self-less career.

The family asks that donations be made to Vitas House Hospice, in lieu of flowers.

The funeral will take place at St. Benedict’s Church in La Romain, at 12 noon on September 30th, followed by a private cremation.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Bertie became our family doctor after Dr Goberdhan (Tony) died.I can vouch that he was indeed a dedicated, caring and concerned doctor.I remember at 4.00 am one Saturday morning, Bertie saved my life. I was in terrible pain all Friday night,my then husband was waiting for 4.00 am because we knew that he would be up in his gym at that hour before he went to his office at 7.00 am.. He picked up Bertie and brought him to our home where Bertie immediately diagnosed a ruptured philopian tube pregnancy and ordered me to his office as soon as possible to make sure. I remember all to well his anxiety and urgency. At his office he confirmed his original diagnosis and immediately got a doctor at a nearby nursing home to cancel all his surgery appointments and take me as his first surgery that morning. Not only that, he came to see me later that day at the nursing home.Maybe it was the pain, but I don’t remember paying him at all.Thank you Bertie for saving my life that morning and May you rest in peace.Im sure God has another position waiting for you. May the Blessings Be!

Dr. Low Chew Tung was my doctor since he opened his office on Coffee Street San Fernando, he subsequently moved to other locations Cipero Street, St. James Street and finally Vistabella.
He was a very dedicated doctor, I became pregnant at 40 years…He give me all encouragement, when my due date drew closer, he give me his pager number. It was a Sunday afternoon I started having pains. My husband paged him and he came immediately to the nursing home, he held my hands, did all the taking for me and stayed until I give birth.
We surely missed a great and dedicated doctor

Doctor was my physician from the year he opened his first practice on Coffee Street in the early 70’s. Up to a mere 2 weeks before his retirement. His concern and care for his patients was admirable.
Rest in sweet peace Doctor Low ChewTung, may the angels welcome you with open arms. 🙏 ❤️.

Uncle Bertie was our trusted family doctor. He cared for my parents and siblings and his diagnosis was always on point. I was blessed enough to see him before he passed at his office doing what he loved. He will be missed! Condolences from the Sosa-Saney family.
