Celebrating the Life of Hochoy Charles
In celebrating the life and enduring impact of Tobago’s inaugural Chief Secretary, the esteemed Hochoy Alexander Charles, affectionately known as ‘The Heavy Roller” – a man who ‘loved Tobago more than himself’. A true patriotic powerhouse and a beacon of leadership, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
In addition to his invaluable public contributions Hochoy; he was a beloved husband to Eka Frank-Charles and a dedicated father to Ricardo Charles, Mboya Charles, Nicole Charles Farmer, and the late Weinstein Charles.
His familial ties extended to siblings Terrence, Joyce, Earl, Hazel, Geronimo, and the late Glenroy and Elvin. As an influential uncle, he left an indelible mark on the lives of Rolston, Learie, Arlena, Alisha, Andre, Katrina, Pearlette, and numerous others.
The legacy of Hochoy Charles continues through the generations as he was a cherished grandfather to Kerry, Shauneil, Shaniece, Khaleel, Samuel, Aaliyah, Anric, Amaya, Choyanne, Nickale, and Amalia. His impact further transcends, as he became a great-grandfather to two precious souls.
In his role as a brother-in-law, Hochoy shared bonds with the Franks, Clarkes, and Belfons. As a testament to his humble spirit, the family kindly requests no flowers.
In his political motions, Charles can only be described as a visionary and leader. “His advocacy and steadfastness have benefited all of Tobago. Even as he aspired to greater autonomy for Tobago this can in no way diminish what has been accomplished nor can it be superficially exploited by late risers who are yet to travel half his course.
Tobago has lost a valued son and would celebrate his life as one who contributed to her development,” the Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley wrote in a Facebook post.
Let us come together to celebrate the life of Tobago’s trailblazer, ‘The Heavy Roller,’ whose influence and dedication have left an indelible mark on our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy that inspires us all.
The funeral service for Hochoy Alexander Charles will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex. A poignant opportunity to pay respects and honor his memory, the viewing of the body will commence at 9:00 am, followed by the official service at 11:00 am.
